They explored Canada for two weeks getting to see all the top sights in Quebec, Nova Scotia and Ontario. They went to Niagara Falls, they went hiking in Nova Scotia and they explored the metropolises of Montreal and Toronto. They also got to see a Toronto Maple Leafs hockey game, which was the first live NHL experience that Dr. Ihab Anwar, and many other people on the trip, ever had.

Ihab Anwar learned much from his trip to Canada, and he would like to go back and see the western parts one day.

Dr. Ihab Anwar - Contributions to Medical Zeitgeist

Dr. Ihab Anwar is a skilled laparoscopic surgeon working at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He is the author or co-author of a multitude of research papers concerning various surgical practices and techniques. He has extensive training in breast reconstruction surgery and breast disease, including breast cancer.

In March 2011, he and a few other prominent researchers completed a study called “Management Guidelines for Breast Cancer,” published by the King Faisal Specialist Hospital. The paper is a groundbreaking study of the detailed stages of breast cancer in the body using new knowledge.

Ihab Anwar

The paper focuses in part on tumor staging systems and how they provide surgeons and doctors with information on the extent of the cancer and how this information can be used to dictate treatment and help doctors develop a useful prognosis. Ihab Anwar writes in the paper that tumor staging systems also provides a useful framework for reporting treatment outcomes and permits the evaluation of the effectiveness of new treatment.

Dr. Ihab Anwar uses this breast cancer staging system to classify cancers based on T, N, and M stages. Dr. Anwar uses the letter T and a number between 0 and 4 to identify the size of a tumor and to what extent it has spread to the skin or the chest wall. High T numbers denote a larger, more dangerous tumor.

Dr. Ihab Anwar hopes that his research can curb the devastating effects of breast cancer worldwide. In 2012, 1.7 million new breast cancer cases were diagnosed.

Ihab Anwar : The Most Amazing Experience

Ihab Anwar is a student at the University of Rhode Island, and says that the Fall 2014 semester was the most amazing experience of his entire life.

He did not spent much time at the University of Rhode Island during that fall term. Instead, he was on board the MV Explorer as a participant in the Semester at Sea program. The program, established in 1963, takes up to 720 students on an around-the-world voyage, during which they make multiple stops in numerous countries, and study the history and culture of each port of call.

This year's Semester at Sea set sail from Southampton, England and visited fifteen different countries over its 108 day journey. "It is indescribable," says Ihab Anwar shortly after he returned to the campus at Rhode Island in early December. "It was like nothing I've ever experienced before. I wouldn't even know where to begin to describe it – there was just so much – but I'm going to write about it for the school paper." He is a marine biology major who is thinking of switching to political science. He is also studying journalism.

He says that some of the most interesting ports of call were in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Bridgetown, Barbados, and Havana, Cuba. "I had never been in that part of the world before," he says. But he quickly added, "I guess I'd never been to most of those other places, either, except for England and France."

The Semester at Sea program, says Ihab Anwar, is meant to integrate interdisciplinary coursework, hands-on learning, and a multi-cultural experience for its students. The MV Explorer, which has been called one of the safest ships afloat, is one of the fastest passenger ships of its kind.
